The Holiday Thursday remembering our veterans who fought and died provided NSJHL Teams with time to reflect at 11:11a.m. before four teams hit the ice for a pair of league games in the afternoon.  In Liverpool at the Queens Place Emera Centre:

The AA Munro Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs are now 8-0-0 on the season following their 5-2 upending of the 1st Place Fred Fox Division Leader the Sackville Blazers Sunday evening in Antigonish.  Jake MacDonald and Sam Grant both scored a pair for the Jr. Bulldogs and Fearghus MacDonald added a single.  Luc Arsenault and Jack Walsh replied for the Blazers who trailed 2-0 after one period and 2-1 after forty minutes.  The Blazers outshot the winners 34-21 but Blazers goalie Adam Fisher allowed 5 goals on 21 shots.  The Jr. Bulldogs now head to Liverpool for a Remembrance Day afternoon game against the 5-3-1 Privateers before returning home to begin a weekend home and home series with the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles Friday evening.

After suffering a gut-wrenching overtime loss in Port Hawkesbury Friday evening, the Liverpool Privateers regrouped and handed the Strait Pirates their first loss of the season in the conclusion of their weekend home and home series Saturday evening in Liverpool.  Jude Greenwood put the Privateers up 1-0 before the game was even two minutes old but Cameron Gillis then scored for the Strait and the teams were tied 1-1 after one period.  The Privateers Matt Ormon then scored a pair of goals 1:15 apart in the second to give Liverpool a 3-1 lead after forty minutes.  Liverpool then added a fourth goal from Daniel Kline before Danny Gillis scored for the Strait Pirates to make the final 4-1.  The Privateers are now 5-3-1 and four points behind the first place Sackville Blazers who stand at 7-2-1.  The Blazers and Privateers collide Monday Nov 15 in Sackville at 7:30 p.m.

The Eskasoni Jr. Eagles completed a successful weekend in Brookfield Saturday afternoon Nov 6 as they squeaked by the Brookfield Elks 5-4 to give them two wins against Fred Fox Division Teams, this after their 6-3 win over the Capstone Colts Friday at C.F.B. Shearwater.  The Eagles jumped out early and took a 3-0 lead over the Elks on goals from MacKenzie Erickson, Jacob Denny and Thomas Simon before the Elks regrouped and tied the game 3-3.  Calem McAndrew scored the final goal of the first to make it 3-1 Jr. Eagles after one period.  Connor Miller and Luke MacDonald both scored in the second for the Elks on the power-play as the Jr. Eagles ran into some penalty troubles.  It stayed 3-3 until Kinnon Williams scored the first of his two on the afternoon for Eskasoni with 5:47 to play in the second.   With five minutes elapsed in the third period, Williams recorded his 2nd marker of the afternoon to put Eskasoni up 5-3 but the Elks refused to quit as Noah Latimer scored with 3:19 to play to make it 5-4 Eskasoni but try as they might, the Elks could not get the equalizer and lost 5-4.  The Jr. Eagles now 3-7-0 on the season outshot the 0-6-1 Elks 46-32.

In what is shaping up to be a classic home and home weekend series, the Liverpool Privateers and Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates played game one  at the Civic Centre Friday Nov 5 in Port Hawkesbury.  The Strait Pirates squeaked out a 4-3 overtime win with Lewis Taylor scoring his third of the game for the Strait with 3:31 left in the five-minute sudden-death while Blake Chase was serving a two-minute minor penalty for Boarding which he received with 3:51 left in overtime.  The Privateers who clearly controlled a large portion of the game outshooting the Strait 68-37 but they somehow could not contain Taylor.  The Privateers led 1-0 after 40 minutes before Taylor struck for his first two goals before the third period was two minutes old, the goals coming 17 seconds apart.  Daniel Kline tied it for Liverpool.  Gregor Yoell the put the Pirates up 3-2 with 6:36 to play but Daniel Kline with his second of the period for Liverpool scored on the power-play with 4:23 left in regulation.  Alec Howie had given the Privateers their 1-0 lead with his first period goal.  Matthew Spinella turned away 65 of 68 shots in the Strait nets.  The two teams will be back in Liverpool for a 7:00 p.m. start Saturday evening.  For the Strait, they are now 5-0-0 while Liverpool fell to 4-3-1.

he Valley Maple Leafs in playing to date, perhaps their best game of the season downed the Pictou County Scotians 6-4 at the West Hants Sports Complex in Windsor Friday evening Nov 6.  The Leafs received a huge game from relative newcomer Carson Gallant who in only his 3rd game with the Leafs this season scored twice and added 2 assists for the Leafs.  One of Gallant’s goals was the game winner with 12:41 to play in the third period.  Brady MacLean also scored twice for the Leafs while adding an assist.  Jake Hunt and Hayden Richardson tallied the other Leaf goals.  Pictou led 1-0 after one period and the Leafs took a 3-2 lead going into the third.  The Scotians Jack Graham playing in nets for the visitors did not have one of his better games as Pictou outshot the Leafs 50-39 with Aidan Durnford coming up strong with a number of key saves for the Leafs.  The Leafs have had their third period struggles this season but that was not a problem Friday evening.  Scoring for the Scotians were Blake Kontuk with a pair while Thomas Kennally and Nathan Peters tallied singles.  The Leafs are now 2-5-0 and the Scotians 3-3-0 heading into their  two games at home this weekend against the 2-4-1 Cumberland County Blues.
