No surprise as Series MVP NAMED
There was little, if any surprise when the NSJHL Championship Series MVP was named following Capstone Colts win Saturday evening. If anyone was caught off guard, they had not been watching carefully as Liam Andrews was named 2024-25 Championship Series MVP for his prolific scoring and his knack at scoring goals whether his team was at full-strength, on the power-play or playing short-handed.
Andrews completed a regular season tied for the most goals in the League with teammate Finn Merritt with 23, kept on rolling in the 24-25 playoffs scoring 16 times and adding 6 assists in the Colts three series wins over the Sackville Blazers, South Shore Lumberjacks and the Antigonish Bulldogs. During the playoffs, he recorded a power-play marker but an incredible three short-handed goals giving him a total of eight for the entire season.
Over the past three seasons when you take in both regular season and playoff games, Andrews rifled home 92 goals and will take his special talents to the Don Johnson Maritime Junior Hockey Championship Tournament in Cocagne, New Brunswick which begins Tuesday, April 22/25.
The Colts and Bulldogs will both play, the Bulldogs entering as a result of Newfoundland deciding not to enter the 24-25 tournament.
Capstone and the Andrews will face-off against the Kensington, P.E.I. Vipers Wednesday, they will play the Bulldogs again in the five-team round robin Thursday before facing off against NB Champion the Kent Koyotes and host New Brunswick on Friday. The tournament semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday and the Maritime Championship Game on Sunday April 27 at 1:00 p.m.
Antigonish besides their game with the Colts on Thursday, will play host New Brunswick Wednesday, Kensington P.E.I. Friday and the Kent Koyotes Friday night.
