Colts cruising
For all the discussion this writer did on the importance of special teams yesterday, they played a minimal impact last evening as the Capstone Colts kept their game in an offensive mode outscoring the Antigonish Bulldogs 6-2 and taking a 3-2 lead in their Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Championship Series in Antigonish.
The Colts scored a pair of goals in each period while allowing the Bulldogs a pair of power-play goals in the second. The Colts are now back in Shearwater tonight, hoping they can win and end the Bulldogs three-year run as Provincial Junior Champions in a game that starts at 7:00 p.m.
Nik Xidos and Liam Andrews scored in the first period for the Colts to give them a 2-0 lead after one. The teams trade a pair of goals each in the second as Owen O’Donnell and Cody Garcin tallied for the Colts and Ethan Twolan scored a pair on the power-play for the Bulldogs. The game stayed tight at 402 until the Bulldogs pulled Adam Tkacz late in the third and Camden McKenzie scored a pair of empty-net goals for the Colts to put them up 3-2 and on the verge of their first ever provincial junior championship since back in the 70’s and Moochie Friesen was one of the Colts leading the way. McKenzie also added a couple of assists. The Colts outshot the Bulldogs 32-28.
If by chance a seventh game is necessary in this series, it will be played Easter Sunday evening at 7:30 in Antigonish.
