Antigonish up 2-0

The Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs are now only two wins away from their fourth consecutive Nova Scotia Junior Hockey Championship following their 6-4 win over the Capstone Colts at C.F.B. Shearwater Saturday night.

The Colts were in this game until the bitter end as the Colts Finn Merritt scored his 8th goal of the playoffs and his 31st in 37 games throughout the regular season and playoffs, on the power-play with 54 seconds gone in the third period to put the Colts up 4-3.

However like Friday night in Antigonish when the Bulldogs had a huge three-goal second period, they saved their three-goal explosion for the third period Saturday night as Venel Campbell tied the game at 4-4 1:26 after Merritt’s go-ahead goal to knot the game at 4-4.  It stayed that way until there was only 2:45 left in regulation when Owen Juurlink put the Jr. Bulldogs in front 5-4 and Venel Campbell scored his second of the period into an empty net to make the final 6-4.

The game was tied 2-2 after twenty minutes when Liam Andrews opened the game’s scoring with a short-handed goal, giving him 13 in the playoffs and his 36rd in 43 games through the playoffs and regular season.  Logan McGrath and Zachary Lorette put the Bulldogs in front 2-1 before Merritt scored the first of his two.

In the second, Luke MacPhee on the power-play put the Colts up 3-2 before Jake Prince scored for Antigonish to tie the game at 3-3 entering the third.  The Bulldogs outshot the Colts 40-30.

The series now swings back to Antigonish for Game 3 Friday night April 11th at 7:30 before returning to C.F.B. Shearwater Forum Saturday night April 12th at 7:30.
