Do or die Wednesday
It is all down to a seventh and deciding game in the Fox Division Final after the South Shore Lumberjacks doubled up the Capstone Colts Saturday evening in Bridgewater 4-2.
The Lumberjacks who were up 2-0 before the Colts rallied to win three in a row stayed alive at home Saturday by taking a 3-0 lead after the opening period on goals from Cohen Westlake, Angus Berry and Brennan Coleman.
Finn Merritt who was absent for the initial four games of the series after being tied for the League Lead in goals in the regular season and winning rookie of the year honours scored on the power-play with 11 seconds left in the second to put the Colts trailing 3-1 after forty minutes. Merritt also added an assist in Friday’s game.
In the third period, Brennan Coleman scored his second of he game to put the South Shore back in front by three goals before Luke McPhee of the Colts completed the game’s scoring on the power-play with 3:51 remaining in regulation.
The Lumberjacks would have been delighted to see Keegan Greencorn back in razor sharp form after an off-night in game 5. Greencorn stoped 40 of 42 shots to assist the South Shore immensely as they were outshot 42-31 by the Colts. Conar Brace stopped 27 of 31 shots he faced in the Colts net.
It has now come down to Game 7 in the Fox Division Final Wednesday night Wednesday night April 2nd in the C.F.B Shearwater Forum at 7:30. The winner will advance to play the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs for the provincial junior championship. The winner will also travel to Cocagne, New Brunswick for the Don Johnson Memorial Cup Maritime Championship in late April.
