Lumberjacks surprise Colts

Bulldogs and Lumberjacks score wins in opening games of division finals.

The Lumberjacks rifled 44 shots at Colts net minder Conar Brace and made him work hard all evening as the South Shore took a 1-0 lead in the opening game of the Fred Fox Divisional Final in Shearwater.  Braden Cheney put the Colts up 1-0 after the opening period but it was the only goal the Colts would score the remainder of the evening as Lumberjacks goalie Kegan Greencorn turned away 23 of 24 shots and kept up his red-hot play.
 
Owen Cleary and Dawson O’Connell’s short-handed goal with Rory Browne off for slashing put the Lumberjacks up 2-1 after forty minutes,
 
The only goal of the third was scored by the Lumberjacks Joe Osborne.
 
Game 2 is scheduled for Bridgewater Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
 
 
Antigonish   6     Pictou   2
 
The Jr. Bulldogs opened up a 5-0 lead on the penalty riddled Scotians and went on for a 6-2 win in the opening game of the Sid Rowe Divisional Final in Antigonish.  The Scotians were assessed 12 minor penalties in the game and the Bulldogs five.  The Bulldogs led 4-0 after the opening period on a short-handed goal by Venel Campbell followed by Owen Forsythe’s goal 25 seconds later.  The Bulldogs finished the opening period with goals from Ethan Toolan and a power-play marker from Zachary Lorette.
 
Will MacKinnon’s power-play goal made it 5-0, 32 seconds into the second period before Drew Williams short-handed goal finally put the Scotians on the scoreboard before the end of the second period.
 
Forty-seven seconds after the opening face-off to begin the third period, Owen Juurlink made it 6-1 Bulldogs.   Matt Carson concluded the game’s scoring with the Scotians second and final goal of the game.  The Jr. Bulldogs outshot the Scotians by a 2-1 margin, 38-19.
 
Game 2 is scheduled for Pictou in Trenton Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m.
