Jr. Bulldogs advance to Rowe Divisional Final
It took an overtime goal by Owen Forsythe with 2:31 left in the ten-minute sudden death overtime period to allow the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs to advance to the Sid Rowe Divisional Final Wednesday evening in Antigonish with a 4-3 win over Port Hawkesbury.
The Strait’s Landon MacIntosh tied the game at 3-3 with only 1:08 left in regulation. The teams each scored one goal apiece in each period of regulation with Daniel Chiasson, Brody MacPherson with his 5th goal of the series and Will McKinnon scoring for Antigonish. Aidan O’Rourke, Leo MacLean and MacIntosh scored for the Strait who were eliminated in five games by the three-time defending Provincial Junior Champion Bulldogs.
The Strait were severely outplayed and the game might have been a blow-out if not for the exceptional goaltending of Manny Strong in the Strait nets. He stopped 48 of the 52 shots he faced. The Strait meanwhile managed only 19 shots on the Bulldogs Adam Tkacz. Antigonish outscored Port Hawkesbury 19-12 in the five games. The Bulldogs will now wait to see who will win the Pictou-Membertou series before beginning the divisional final. The Scotians and Jr. Miners play Game 4 in their series Friday evening in Membertou before returning to Trenton for game 5 at 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening.
