Game 5 Friday night in Shearwater

The Sackville Blazers started slowly Monday night in the fourth game of their Best-of-Seven Fox Divisional Semi-Final with the Capstone Colts.  The Colts after outscoring the Blazers in two previous games 13-0, were looking to take a 3-1 stranglehold lead on the series.

Things were progressing in a positive direction as the Colts jumped in front 3-1 with a pair of first period goals by Benjamin Veinot and Liam Andrews, Andrews scoring the first of his two on the evening.  The Blazers moved back to within 2-1 on a power-play goal from Zachary Jenkins before Andrews 2nd goal of the night came on a penalty shot and Capstone was in front 3-1.

The Colts then began playing undisciplined hockey as they took two consecutive minors plus a double minor for spearing in the final 3:06 of the second period.  Jacob Trioni-Willis started the penalty spree with a holding call with 3:06 left in the second and that was followed up by Camden McKenzie’s double minor for spearing with 1:23 to play in the middle frame.  The penalties did not stop as Cody Garcin was then assessed a slashing penalty with 0.34 seconds left in the second.

The Blazers trailing 3-1 exploded for three goals, all of them power-play markers in the final 1:23 of the second as Will Meek scored twice and Ryan Welsh once to give the Blazers a 4-3 lead after forty minutes.  Meek then scored his third power-play goal of the game just 1:16 into the third period and the Blazers led 5-3.  The two teams then tried goals the rest of the way as Jacob Trioni-Willis brought the Colts back to within a goal at 5-4 before Tyler Curnew tallied for the Blazers to make the final 6-4 and tie their Best-of-Seven series at 2-2.  Conar Blackwood was brilliant in the Blazer nets stopping 59 of 63 shots as the Colts despite their loss still outshot Sackville 63-35.  Game 5 in this series goes Friday night in Shearwater at 7:30 before shifting back to Sackville for Game 6 Monday March 9th at 7:30 p.m.

Game Notes— Liam Andrews two goals  now gives him eight in four games in the series while Meek from Sackville now has four in four games….Adam Maillet collected assists on half of Sackville’s goals.
