NSJHL PLAYOFFS UNDERWAY
The Pictou County Scoring machine better known as Lane Lochead scored twice and added an assist to lead the Pictou County Scotians to a 6-4 win in the opening game of the Sid Rowe Divisional Semi-Finals over the Membertou Jr. Miners Thursday evening in Trenton.
The Scotians staked themselves to a 5-1 lead mid-way through the third period before the Jr. Miners rallied to score three consecutive goals to close to within 5-4 before Keegan Macumber completed the Scotians scoring for a 6-4 win.
Jarred Hicks who scored the first two goals for the Jr. Miners opened the game’s scoring 59 seconds into the opening period before Cale MacLaughlin and Jack Tompkins scored to give Pictou a 2-1 lead after the opening period.
The Scotians then exploded for three second period goals to go up 5-1 and seemingly put the game away. The Jr. Miners had second thoughts as Jarred Hicks scored before the second period was over and then Alex Chenhall and Landon Clark scored in less than five minutes to open the third period and the Jr. Miners were suddenly one goal behind. However, the Scotians maintained their composure and Keegan Macumber tallied with less than seven minutes to play to give the Scotians their 6-4 verdict. Carter Hood helped the Scotians offence with two assists.
Both goaltenders played exceptionally well despite the ten goals as Eli James turned away 42 of 46 shots for Pictou and Lucas Fraser 44 of 50 for the Jr. Miners. Game 2 in this series goes Friday night in Membertou.
