Close races for points, goals and assists

With each team having one game remaining in their regular season schedule except for the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles who have completed their season, many close races exist for points, goals and assists among a variety of players.

For the League Scoring Lead in points, all indications point toward Lane Lochead of the Pictou County Scotians claiming this honour as he presently leads Cooper Puma of the Capstone Colts by 8 points.  Lochead has 18 goals and 35 assists for 53 points while Puma has 12 goals and 33 assists for 45 points.  However as we have witnessed all year, anything is a possibility in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.  One only has to look back at Feb 7 in Shearwater when Cooper Puma registered a nine point night in the Colts 16-5 win over the Valley Maple Leafs.  It is the same team the Colts are playing on the road Monday in both team’s regular season finales.  Lochead well known for his five and six point nights and one night when he registered even more points.  So as the Scotians prepare to close at home against Port Hawkesbury at 11:15 a.m. Monday, anything is a distinct possibility in the points race.

The race for most goals is a three-way race at this point with Devin Meagher of the East Hants Penguins and Liam Andrews and Finn Merritt of the Capstone Colts all having scored 22 goals to share the league lead.

It is no different in assists as Nick Veinot of the East Hants Penguins has recorded 36 assists as part of his 40 point season to date but Lochead is only one behind with 35 and Puma three behind with 33.
