Scotians Lochead and Carson big nights
The Pictou County Scotians have stayed in second place all season long, trailing the rival Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs by 8-10 points all season. The number one reason this has transpired is due to the fact the Scotians have not been able to defeat the Jr. Bulldogs very often. Sunday night in Pictou, the teams played their final regular season game of the year and the Scotians pulled off a 6-2 win giving them a record of 2-5-1 against Antigonish this season. The Bulldogs meanwhile are 6-2-0 against the Scotians while outscoring Pictou by a wide-margin 40-23.
In Sunday night’s game, the Scotians and Bulldogs were tied 2-2 after one period but the Scotians exploded for 4 goals, two each in the second and third periods for a 6-2 win. Antigonish and the Scotians were tied 27-27 in shots.
Two Pictou players had enormous nights on offence as the League’s Leading Scorer Lane Lochead scored three goals and collected a pair of assists while Matt Carson moved into a second place tie in the League with points after he scored twice and added three assists to give him 43 on the season. Carson and Puma both have 43 and trail Lochead as the League enters the final week of the 24-25 regular season.
Carson and Lochead were the first period goal scorers for the Scotians while Owen Flemming and Daniel Chiasson tallied for the Bulldogs. Carson and Lochead both scored in the second to put Pictou up 4-2 while Cale MacLaughlin who also registered a pair of assists and Lochead into an empty net tallied in the third for Pictou.
Antigonish is now 25-4-0 on the season while Pictou improved to 18-7-4 for 40 points.
