Bulldogs clinch 1st place in Rowe Division
Bulldog offence overwhelms in the end despite Pictou’s 61 shots on goal.
The Antigonish Jr. Mutual Bulldogs trailed 3-2 and 4-3 after the opening two periods Sunday evening in Trenton but when it was all said and done, the Bulldogs exploded for four unanswered third period goals to defeat the Pictou County Scotians 7-4 to clinch first place in the Sid Rowe Division for the 2024-25 Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League’s Regular Season. The first place Bulldogs with the win moved 11 points up on the second place Scotians with both teams having only 5 regular season games remaining in their schedule. Antigonish is now 22-3-0 while Pictou fell back to 15-7-3.
The Scotians worked hard all night and outshot the Bulldogs by an astronomical 61-24 but simply could not score on all their opportunities. The 24 shots the Bulldogs had, they more than took advantage especially with the four third period unanswered markers that saw Will McKinnon score twice including a short-handed effort to complete his hat-trick for the evening. He also scored in the first period. Brody MacPherson also scored in the first for the Jr. Bulldogs while Will Normandeau scored in the second. The other two Antigonish goals in the third were tallied by Jake Prince and Zachary Lorette. For the Scotians, Lane Lochead the League’s scoring leader scored in the second for the Scotians while also adding his 29th assist to go along with13 goals for 42 points. Besides leading the League in points, Lochead now leads the League in assists. Other Scotian goals were scored by Matt Carson, Keegan Macumber and Ryan Frizzle. McKinnon also added an assist for the Bulldogs for a four point night while Prince contributed 2 assists for a three point night. For the losers Carson besides Lochead also added an assist.
