First players of the week in 2025!
The first week of 2025 saw some dynamic performances in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League with two players walking away with Player of the Week Honours. First in the Fred Fox Division:
1. Devin Meagher — Played a superior game in Windsor against the Valley Maple Leafs and every goal he scored which totalled three were vitally important as the East Hants Penguins defeated the Leafs 5-4 in sudden-death overtime. Among his 3 goals were a short-handed effort and a sensational 2 on 1 in which he stepped around Leafs goaltender Graydon Mole and after Mole was down, put it into the left-hand side of the net. Meagher wins 2 Dozen Eggs from the Egg Farmers of Nova Scotia and also 5 points toward player of the month.
2. Luke McPhee - a recent signing of the Capstone Colts, he scored twice and added a pair of assists in two Colt wins over Brookfield and the South Shore Lumberjacks. McPhee earned 3 points toward player of the month award.
3. A tie amongst two teammates for the third star of the week between Jackson Spraggon and Jack Piper of the Brookfield Elks. Spraggon scored three times and added an assists while Piper collected four assists in the Elks huge comeback win over the Leafs. The Elks rallied from a 6-3 deficit with 5 minutes to play in the second period to win the game 7-6.
Sid Rowe Division:
1. Matt Carson — With only two games scheduled in the Rowe Division with another being postponed, it was a little more difficult to select player of the week honours but Matt Carson of the Pictou County Scotians did earn the award after scoring both goals in his team’s hard-fought 2-1 win over the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates. He also wins 2 dozen eggs from the Egg Farmers of Nova Scotia.
2. Eli James - was named second star as he stood strong blocking 34 of 35 shots in the Scotians net as Pictou won 2-1 in the Strait.
3. Zachary Lorette — was named third star in his two goal effort as the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs blanked the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles 6-0.
