Tight-scoring race as 2025 portion of schedule set to resume
The NSJHL Regular Season Christmas Break has another week to go before teams resume the final part of their schedules, seeking playoff positioning. The scoring race is something that can change on any given night.
Like last year’s race when Nate Supryka of the Pictou County Scotians finished in a tight race with 20 goals and 24 assists for 44 points, defeating Cohen Westlake of the South Shore Lumberjacks by 3 points, this year’s race is just as exciting and very tight.
The Scotians still have the number one points person, but this year instead of Supryka, it is Lane Lochead who has recorded 12 goals and 21 assists for 33 points in 20 games to date. With 10 regular-season games remaining in the Scotians schedule, he should surpass Supryka’s 44 points of last season. Owen Forsythe of the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs is providing Lochead with no breathing space as Forsythe has recorded 9 goals and 22 assists for 21 points, 2 back of Lochead. Middle Musquodoboit native, the 5’9”- 165 lbs Devin Meagher is tied with Forsythe with 31 points having scored 16 goals and added 15 assists for 31 points. Rounding out the top 5 are Jayson Hanson from East Hants with 27 points on 9 goals and 18 assists for 27 points while Finn Merritt of the Capstone Colts occupies 5th place and is tied with Meagher for the Goal Scoring Lead with 16 goals and 10 assists for 26 points.
Nick Veinot of the East Hants Penguins leads the league in assists with 23. The 5’11” native from Tantallon has also scored twice giving him 25 points and a mere single point out of the top 5 in the scoring race, Veinot has collected 3 assists in two different games while also garnering 4 assists in another game.
Adam Tkacz who plays nets for the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs presently has a record of 8-2-0 with a 1.91 Goals Against Average and a .916 save percentage. Will Shields of the Penguins who was born in Elmsdale has yet to lose a game this season and is 5-0-0 with a 2.58 Goals Against Average and a .912 save percentage. Fintan Boudreau of the Penguins leads the League in recorded shut-outs with 3.
