Tight playoff race for fourth in Rowe
The Eskasoni Jr. Eagles have made the scrap for the fourth and final playoff position in the Sid Rowe Division even more interesting after defeating the Membertou Jr. Miners in Eskasoni Sunday evening 8-2. It marked the Jr. Eagles first win of the season agains the Jr. Miners in five games and pulled Eskasoni to within three points of Membertou for the final playoff position in the Sid Rowe Division..
Eskasoni took a 6-0 lead on the Jr. Miners before they could even blink Sunday evening, scoring 5 unanswered goals in the opening period before scoring their 6th on a short-handed effort from Kent Wolodka with 5:03 having elapsed in the middle frame. Just 1:01 later, Adam Hicks notched a power-play goal to put the Jr. Miners on the board. Keagan Geizer put the Jr. Eagles back up by 6 with a goal with only 1:07 to play in the second. Other Eskasoni Goal Scorers were Wolodka with the first of his two in the opening period, Jacob Wolodka, Daniel Young, Dillion Arsenault and Terance Toney and Mitchell Gould.
In the third, Landon Clark of the Jr. Miners and Mitchell Gould of the Jr. Eagles trade goals to make the final 8-2. The Eagles are now 5-13-2 for 12 points and the Jr. Miners 7-12-1 for 15 points when play resumes after the League’s Christmas Break on Friday, January 3/25. The Jr. Miners have recorded four of their seven wins against the Eagles this season and are 4-1-0 against them while the Eagles are 5-13-2 and 1-3-1 against the Jr. Miners. In the 5 games despite losing four of them, the Jr. Eagles have outscored the Jr. Miners 18-17.
These two clubs will fight the finish to determine the final playoff spot in the Rowe as they play three more games before the end of the regular season on Saturday, Jan 18th and Saturday Feb 8th in Membertou and Sunday, Jan 26th in Eskasoni.
