Scotians remain red-hot

Just when you think the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs might have pulled too far ahead in first place in the Sid Rowe Division, the Pictou County Scotians remain seemingly unconvinced.  The Scotians have put together a blistering hot streak of 8-1-1 in their past 10 games to move with 7 points of the Bulldogs for first place in the Rowe.  Their latest win came Sunday evening in Trenton 9-2 over the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles and the Scotians were led by Martin MacArthur who scored four of the Scotians nine goals.  The win follows a 5-2 win over the Membertou Jr. Miners in Membertou Saturday evening.  The Scotians are now 12-5-3 for 27 points compared to the Bulldogs mark of 17-3-0.  MacArthur opened the game’s scoring for the Scotians Sunday evening but Aidan Stanwick tied the game at 1-1 before the first period concluded.  The Scotians outscored the Jr. Eagles 3-1 in the second period on goals from Lane Lochead, Jack Tompkins and MacArthur’s 2nd of the evening.  Arlen Denny scored for the Eagles and it proved to be their final goal of the contest.  Pictou showed they were not ready to quit as they roared in the third period scoring five unanswered goals for the 9-2 win.  MacArthur scored two more in the third while Lochead added his second of the night.  Single markers went to Camden Burgess and Drew Williams.  Lochead with his two goals has now taken over the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey Scoring Lead again as he now has 12 goals and 21 assists for 33 points.

Sunday’s game was the Scotians final one prior to the Christmas Break, they are now off until Friday, January 3/25 when they begin a three game road trip to Port Hawkesbury, Eskasoni and Antigonish.  The game with Antigonish will be the first of 4 games with the Bulldogs in the early part of 2025.  They will be pivotal if the Scotians ahem any hopes of overtaking the first place Bulldogs.  The Scotians first home game of 2025 will come against the Membertou Jr. Miners on Sunday Jan 12th at 6:00 p.m. in Trenton.
