MacDermid and Gerhardt shine for Leafs
The Valley Maple Leafs pulled off an incredible third period Monday night in Sackville as they rebounded from a 3-0 deficit, scoring three times in the third period to defeat the Blazers 4-3 and hand Sackville their fourth consecutive loss. The Blazers were going off a 5-2 loss in Brookfield Saturday afternoon. The last Blazers win came back at the beginning of the month in Antigonish when they surprised the Bulldogs 4-1 on Nov 3rd. Graydon Mole took a breather and Jackson Murphy played nets stopping 46 of 49 shots he faced in the Leafs net. Conar Blackwood stopped 39 of 43 shots for the Blazers.
The huge stars of the game for the Leafs were Jacob Gerhardt and Owen MacDermid as they both scored twice and assisted on a goal. The Leafs were trailing 3-0 when MacDermid scored his first of the game with 6:48 to play in the second. In a span of six minutes in the third, Gerhardt scored his pair and MacDermid notched the game winner with 13:43 left in the third. Gerhardt’s second goal and MacDermid’s game winner both were power-play goals. Aidan MacLeod picked up a pair of assists for the Leafs. The Valley improved to 6-10-0 for 12 points and only two back of the South Shore Lumberjacks for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Fox Division while the Blazers fell to 9-7-1 for 19 points.
