HUGE GAME TONIGHT IN EAST HANTS
The most talked about game of the season in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League will be played in East Hants this evening (Friday, Nov 15th) as the 14-0-0 Penguins collide with the 12-2-0 Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs. Whether it will be an early taste of the Nova Scotia Junior Championship Series in April remains to be seen but if play to date is any indication, early odds would seem to indicate the two teams vying for Nova Scotia Junior Championship honours.
The Penguins remain the highest scoring team in the league by quite a distance with 87 goals scored and only 35 allowed while Antigonish is still the top defensive team, having only allowed 31 goals versus the 74 they have scored.
Special teams are going well with one exception being the Antigonish power-play where they have scored only 15% of their chances or 9 power-play goals while the Pens are scoring 19% of the time on their power play and have recorded 18 Power-play goals.
Devin Meagher leads the Pens in scoring with 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points while Nick Veinot is having an incredible season to date setting up teammates, having done so 21 times. Alex Field is tied for the team lead in goals with Devin Meagher with 10. Defenseman Noah Comeau has earned 15 points for the Pens on 4 goals and 11 assists for 15 points.
Fintan Boudreau has been electric for the majority of the season for East Hants in nets recording a 10-0-0 record, a 0.931 save pct and a 2.23 goals against average.
As for the Bulldogs, Owen Forsythe and Tully Grant will be two players the Pens will have to keep a sharp eye on as Forsythe has recorded 5 goals and 14 assists for 19 points while Grant has 7 goals and 11 assists for 18 points. Defenseman Brodie MacDonald is also having a tremendous season setting up 13 goals from the blue line while Bulldog Goaltender Adam Tkacz has a 1.71 Goals Against Average and a 0.922 save percentage.
This should definitely be a game that hockey fans across East Hants and sections of Halifax County and for those that make the trip from Antigonish. Game time is 7:30 in Lantz at the Sportsplex.
Elsewhere Friday night, the Brookfield Elks are on the road to play the Capstone Colts at 7:30 in Shearwater. The two teams have played once this season with the Colts winning 6-5.
In Windsor, the Valley Maple Leafs who have three of their past five games take on the South Shoe Lumberjacks in a 7:30 start. The Lumberjacks have defeated the Leafs in two earlier starts tis season by scores of 4-2 and 5-1.
One other game tonight has the Membertou Jr. Miners visiting the Sackville Blazers in a 7:30 start in Sackville.
