3 late goals give Scotians win
It was a strong defensive game and the Pictou County Scotians trailed 1-0 for almost 55 minutes at home Sunday evening before exploding for three goals in the game’s final 5:36 for a 3-1 win over the visiting Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates. Pictou improved to 6-4-2 while the Strait fell to 5-9-2. The Scotians have now defeated Port Hawkesbury in all three games between the clubs this season outscoring them 13-6 in the process.
The teams played a scoreless first period before Landon MacIntosh put the Pirates up 1-0 late in the second. It stayed that way until Keagan Dalton tied it at 1-1 with 5:36 left in regulation. With 19 seconds remaining in a charging penalty to the Pirates Blake MacDonnell, Joseph Mason scored on the power-play for the Scotians with 2:24 left in the third. Cale MacLaughlin then tallied an empty netter for the Scotians to make the final 3-1 Pictou. With the power-play goal by Pictou, it leaves them in two-way tie for the second best power-play in the league as they have scored on 20% of their chances. Ryan Frizzle continued his impressive play for the Scotians with two assists as the Scotians are now two points ahead of the Pirates for second place in the Rowe Division and three points ahead of the Membertou Jr. Miners. Eli James stopped 30 of 31 shots for the Scotians and Manny Strong 36 of 38 in the Strait Pirate nets. The Scotians will board a bus early Remembrance Day morning for a 1:30 game in Bridgewater against the South Shore Lumberjacks.
