Penguins continue to rock and roll

Ain’t no stopping us know are the words from a famous song that could aptly apply to the East Hants Penguins who continue their masterful play.  The Valley Maple Leafs have now won three of their past four games and the Antigonish Bulldogs won their 12th of the season in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Play Friday evening.  The following is a recap of the three games.

At the C.F.B. Shearwater Forum, the Penguins devoured the Colts 10-2 and were leading 5-0 before the Colts even git on the scoreboard.  Hayden Tamm scored three for the Pens, one in the first and two in the second.  Devin Meagher scored a pair of goals for the now 13-0-0 Pens with both of his coming in the second period which the Pens led 10-2 after forty minutes and 4-0 after the first.  Other Pen goal scorers were Jacob Reigate, Connor McNamara, Jayson Hanson, Jacob Sanford and Blake Irvine.  Irvine also added a pair of assists and Nick Veinot collected four assists for the Pens.  Finn Merritt assisted on 2 of the3  Colt goals scored by Trainer McCulloch, Dylan Ross and Cody Garcin.  The Penguins outshot the Colts 45-25.  The Penguins will try to improve to 14-0-0 when they visit the Brookfield Elks in Brookfield Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
 
Valley Maple Leafs   3        Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates   2
 
The Leafs continue to shine on the defensive side as they won their third game in four starts, this time 3-2 over the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates 3-2 in the Strait Friday evening.  The Strait grabbed a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes on goals from Landon MacIntosh on the power-play and Aidan O’Rourke.  Nick Goodwin added a short-handed marker in between the two Pirate goals s.  Graydon Mole was outstanding in the Maple Leaf nets stopping 43 of 45 shots directed at him while the Leafs managed 25 shots on the Pirates net.  In the second period Cameron Henderson scored to tie the game at 2-2 before Ben McCarthy with his third of the season scored the game winner in the third for the Leafs.  Leo MacLean assisted on both Strait Pirate goals.  The Valley now heads to Membertou Saturday night for a contest with the 4-7-1 Jr. Miners.

The Bulldogs took a 4-0 lead after one period and never looked back en route to a 7-2 win over the Membertou Jr. Miners.  Owen Forsythe, Owen Juurlink who also added a couple of assists, Tully Grant and Matthew Bercovici all connected in the opening 20 minutes.  The Jr. Miners struck for two goals in the second as Brady Doucette and Trey Sturge who both assisted as well on each other’s goals made it 4-2 before Ethan Twolan’s Power-play effort put the Bulldogs in front 5-2 after two periods.  Twolan added his 2nd power-play marker of the game in the third before Andrew Murray also scored a power-play goal with less than a minute to play to make the final 7-2.  This game was a rough and tumble affair with 146 minutes in penalties being called including 100 of those minutes in the final period.  Antigonish outshot the Jr. Miners 34-21.  The Bulldogs are now 12-2-0 on the season.
