NS Egg Farmers Players of the Week named
Farmers Players of the Week in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League for the time period of Nov 1-7.
Fred Fox Division:
1. Banks did not have the kind of week where he razzled and dazzled you with an avalanche of points but when it came to critical face-offs and being able to score a must goal, he was the player of the week as the Valley Maple Leafs pulled off an upset 4-3 shoot-out win over the Sackville Blazers at home while losing 4-2 to the South Shore Lumberjacks in Bridgewater. While Banks certainly did not take every face-off for the Leafs in their shoot-out win, he was impressive enough in winning his fair share as the Leafs played a steady defensive game against the Blazers. The game was still tied 3-3 after 65 minutes of hockey and it evolved into a shoot-out. A total of 11 shots were fired at goaltenders and the score was still tied 3-3 until Banks broke and took a wrist to the high right-side of the Sackville goaltender and it was the goal the Leafs needed for their second win of the season. The Leafs were 4-2 losers in Bridgewater Saturday night and while Banks did spend 4 minutes in the penalty box, he was effective enough on the ice. Banks earns two dozen eggs from the Egg Farmers of Nova Scotia for winning player of the week honours in the Fred Fox Division.
2. Finishing 2nd and earning three points in the first week of November was Cale McClellan of the Brookfield Elks. He scored three times in the Elks 6-5loss to the Capstone Colts and collected a pair of assists in the Elks 5-2 loss to the Pictou County Scotians Saturday afternoon in Brookfield.
3. Logan Durno scored three times for the East Hants Penguins in the Pens 4-0 win over the South Shore Lumberjacks as the Pens went to 12-0-0 on the season. Durno earns one point toward player of the month honours for November.
Sid Rowe Division:
1. Ryan Frizzle stole the show for the Pictou County Scotians as he connected for four points on three goals and an assist to earn Sid Rowe Division Player of the Week Honors. The four points played a large role in the Scotians 5-2 win over the Brookfield Elks Saturday afternoon in Brookfield. Besides the two dozen Eggs from the Egg Farmers of Nova Scotia, Frizzle also earns five points toward player of the month honors for November.
2. Manny Strong blocked 36 of 38 shots as the Strait Pirates doubled up Eskasoni Sunday afternoon in Eskasoni as he finished second in player of the week honors for the Rowe Division.
3. Tyler Seymour earned third place honors for player of the week as he scored two critical goals in the Membertou Jr. Miners 4-2 win over the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles.
