Lumberjacks fall at home
As they approach the 1/3 mark in their 24-25 regular season schedule, the South Shore Lumberjacks are still trying to reach the .500 level, meanwhile the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates are within two games of the half-way mark of their 24-25 season and stand at 4-7-2. The following is a recap of Saturday’s action in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

In Bridgewater Saturday night, the Colts took a 4-0 lead late into the second period and played sharp defence to defeat the South Shore Lumberjacks 4-2. The Lumberjacks outshot the Colts who are now 6-4-0 on the season by a margin of 39-28.
Ryan Welsh who also added an assist scored in the opening period for the Colts who then added three goals in a span of 3:52 with barely seven minutes to play in the second to go up 4-0. Finn Merritt scored two of them for the Colts and Riley Henman who also had an assist added the other. The Lumberjacks who were kept off the scoring sheet for the opening 39.28 of the game, scored twice in 17 seconds in the final minute of the second to trail 4-2 after two. The Lumberjacks or Colts could not add any additional goals in the third and the Colts prevailed 4-2. The Lumberjacks were hurt when the Colts scored two power-play goals while two individuals were off serving slashing penalties. Conar Brace stood strong in the Colts net turning away 37 of 39 Lumberjack shots.
Port Hawkesbury 4 Brookfield 3
At the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex in Brookfield Saturday afternoon, the Elks on a pair of goals from Jackson Spraggon jumped in front of the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates 2-1 mid-way through the second period but the Pirates Landon MacIntosh scored a short-handed goal and 36 seconds later Cohan Hickey gave the Strait a 3-2 lead going into the third. Keir Jordan had tied the game at 1 for the Strait 55 seconds into the second period. In the third, Evan Allain made it 4-2 Strait Pirates before the Elks Cale McClellan scored the game’s final goal for the Elks as the Pirates won it 4-3. Both goaltenders played strong games with Manny Strong turning away 35 of 38 shots for the Strait while Thomas Gariepy blocked 44 of the 48 shots directed his way by the Strait. Kenzie Batherson and Liam Trenholm both collected a pair of assists for the Pirates.
