Lumberjacks remain red hot

Both the Lumberjacks and Jr. Bulldogs were 5-2 winners in the opening games of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Division Finals Friday night.

 
The Lumberjacks coming off a stunning four-game comeback against the East Hants Penguins, won their fifth in a row in the 23-24 playoffs  as they defeated the Capstone Colts in a game played at C.F.B Shearwater.  The two clubs were tied 1-1 after the first period before the Lumberjacks struck for a pair in the second period to lead 3-1 after two.  The Lumberjacks then outscored the Colts 2-1 in the third to win the game 5-2.  Daniel LeBlanc scored a pair for the winners including the game winner on the power-play in the second.  Other Lumberjack goals were netted by Joe Osborne who kept his playoff sizzling scoring pace going, Nolan Greenlaw who also added a pair of assists and Camden Pellerine.  For the Colts, Liam Andrews opened the game’s scoring in the first and their only other goal came in the third from Benjamin Veinot.  The South Shore outshot the Colts 32-28 and will be looking to go up 2-0 in this Best-of-Seven series when the teams return to Bridgewater for Game 2 Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.

This game was knotted at a pair after forty minutes before the Jr. Bulldogs struck for three third period goals to win the game 5-2.  Daniel Chiasson scored a pair for the Bulldogs with single markers being registered by Nick Marshall, Will Fitzsimmons on the power-play and Bradley Armstrong.  After the Jr. Bulldogs went ahead 2-0, Tyler Seymour and then Ryland Hanrahan with only 19 seconds left in the middle period tied it for the Jr. Miners who were outshot by Antigonish 49-29.
