Blackwood records 1st shut-out of season

The Sackville Blazers and Valley Maple Leafs concluded their regular season season in Sackville Monday evening with the 15-9-4 Blazers blanking the Leafs 2-0 to sweep the season series four straight.  However, three of the games were decided by a single goal and last night’s 2-0 verdict.  The Blazers finished 4-0-0 and the Maple Leafs 0-3-1.  The Blazers outscored the Leafs 13-8 in the four games winning 4-3, 3-2, 4-3 in overtime and last night’s 2-0 verdict.  The Leafs meanwhile now have 7-19-2 in 28 games but in 14 of those, they have a record of 4-8-2, games that were all decided by two goals or less. A break here or there and it is hard to say where the Leafs could be in playoff positioning.  However with last night’s loss, the Leafs a young and growing team were eliminated from Nova Scotia Junior Playoff participation for 23-24.  All of the game’s scoring was done in the first period as Lawson Cook scored what proved to be the game winner only 9 seconds into the contest before Will Meek added an insurance marker with 8:29 to play in the opening frame.  The Blazers outshot the Leafs 49-31.

Conor Blackwood recorded his first shut-out of the season for the Blazers and now has a 4-2-0 record since joining the team back on Nov 18.  He has a 2.34 Goals Against Average and a Save Pct of .944 and the Blazers are only looking fir bigger and better things as the playoffs approach.  He has stopped 235 of 249 shots he has faced this season.
