Connor Brace records his 2nd shut-out of season

Three great games of hockey with one being decided in overtime and another by outstanding goaltending in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Friday evening:

 
Capstone Colts   2       East Hants Penguins   0
 
The Colts moved into a first place tie once again in the Fred Fox Division with the East Hants Penguins after blanking the Pens 2-0 in Lantz.  After playing scoreless in the opening and final periods, Trayner McCulloch’s short-handed goal proved to be the game winner for the Colts in the second period.  Ben King tallied the other Colts goal who now own a 21-5-1 record for 43 points and have one game in hand on the Penguins who are now 21-6-1.  The shut-out was recorded by Conar Brace, it was his second of the season and he now has a record of 13-2-0 with a 2.48 Goals Against Average and a .920 save percentage having stopped 435 of the 473 shots he has faced this season.
 
South Shore Lumberjacks   3      Valley Maple Leafs   2     (Overtime)
 
The Valley Maple Leafs are a young team and will definitely take lessons learned from this season into their 24-25 campaign.  One will be how to win one goal games.  The Leafs who are now 7-18-2 are now 1-10 in the eleven one goal games they have been involved in this season after dropping a 3-2 decision in sudden-death overtime to the South Shore Lumberjacks in Windsor Friday evening.  The teams were scoreless after one period, tied at 1 after forty minutes and 2-2 after regulation.  John Shubaly’s goal 59 seconds into overtime won it for the Lumberjacks.  It was the Leafs 2nd consecutive overtime loss at home. Ethan MacVicar opened the game’s scoring for the Lumberjacks before Terran Baillie’s short-handed goal with 3:43 left in the second tied it at 1-1.  In the third, Kaden Kuryluk’s power-play goal 1:42 into the period put the Leafs up 2-1 before Joe Osborne tied once again for the 19-6-1 Lumberjacks sending the game into sudden-death overtime.  South Shore outshot the Leafs 43-37.  Even with the overtime loss, the Leafs finally crawled out of last place in their division and are tied with the Brookfield Elks for 16 points apiece with the Elks holding three games in hand.
 
Port Hawkesbury   4       Eskasoni   2
 
The Strait Pirates moved into a second place tie in the Rowe Division with the Membertou Jr. Miners after doubling up the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles 4-2 Friday night at home.  Sam Beaton scored a pair for the Strait, one in the opening period and one more in the third.  The remainder of the game’s scoring took place in the second period with Zach Binotto putting the Pirates up 2-0 29 seconds into the second period before the Eagles fought back with goals from Liam Burke and Curtis Novak.  The eventual game winner was scored by Cadyn Power of the Strait with slightly more than 6 minutes left in the second period.  The Jr. Miners who had their game postponed Friday in Antigonish are now 15-8-1 while the Strait is 15-11-1, both with 31 points.

With Port Hawkesbury’s game PPD. with the Jr. Miners tonight, there is only one game on tap in the NSJHL as the Brookfield Elks travel to Bridgewater for a 7:00 p.m. start with the South Shore Lumberjacks.  The Lumberjacks will be attempting to move back to within 2 points of first place in the Fred Fox Division.
