Blazers blank Elks 4-0

The Sackville Blazers won their 10th game of the season and second in a row Tuesday night in Brookfield as they blanked the Elks 4-0 behind the shut-out goaltending of Ben Etsell who stopped all 45 shots he faced.  The win bumped Sackville into third place in the Fred Fox Division with 21 points, now one ahead of the fourth place Elks and three ahead of the fifth place Liverpool Privateers.  The teams played a scoreless first period before Justin Hardie scored his 8th goal of the season to put the Blazers up 1-0 after two periods.  The Blazers stormed out of the gates in the third breathing fire as the Elks gave up a critical short-handed goal to Will Meek with less than four minutes gone in the third before Degen Noble notched his 11th of the season 2:48 later to put Sackville in the driver’s seat at 3-0.  Ryan MacDonald then scored the game’s final goal 2:46 later to make the final 4-0 Blazers.  Etsell in earning the shut-out was making only his second start of the season for Sackville and in those 2 games besides registering the shut-out has stopped 66 of 70 shots while recording a 0.943 save percentage.  The Blazers snow have only eight games remaining in the regular season and that will drop to six after a home and home series with Liverpool this Saturday in Queens County and Monday Jan 16th in Sackville.  The Blazers are now 10-11-1 on the season.
