Jr. Eagles squeak by Strait in overtime

Noah MacKinnon scored with 1:22 having elapsed in sudden-death overtime to give the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles a hard fought 5-4 win over the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates Friday evening.  The Strait Pirates struck early taking a 3-1 lead into the second period before the Jr. Eagles tied the game at 3-3 after forty minutes. In the opening frame, Colin Peryer, Landon Macintosh with pair tallied for the Strait while Kent Wolodka scored for the now 9-4-0 Eagles.  Owen Buckley and Kendrick Marshall on the power-play tied the game 3-3 entering the third.

 
Xander Billard of the Eagles and Cadyn Power of the Strait traded goals in the third  period to send the game into the five-minute sudden death period.  The 2 goals by MacIntsh in a losing cause for the now 5-7-1 Pirates were his 9th and 10th of the season to go along with 9 assists.  Cadyn Power played a strong game in a losing cause scoring once and tallying 3 assists for the Strait.  Arlen Denny collected a pair of assists for the winners.  Elsewhere Friday night in the NSJHL:

The Scotians held period leads of 2-1 and 3-2 before the Colts trampled down the door in the third period scoring four unanswered goals for a 6-3 verdict over the Scotians, dropping Pictou to 6-8-0.  Lane Lochead scored once and added a pair of assists to give him 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points to continue to lead the League in points.  Nate Supryka scored twice as he moved into a four-way tie for third place in the scoring race with 21 points which includes 13 goals, tied for second most in the League.  Both of Nate’s goals came on the power-play.  For the Colts, Cody Garcin, Xavier Coggins, Connor MacPhee, Noah Macpherson, Cooper Puma and Liam Andrews all scored once for the now 8-3-0 Colts.  The Colts also have the second best offensive tally in the League to date this season scoring 68 goals compared to the Penguins 73.  Brady Wanboldt finished the night for the Colts with assists on 4 of the 6 goals.  The Colts outshot the Scotians 42-37.

The Penguins had no difficulty whatsoever in disposing of the Jr. Miners for their 11th win in 13 games this season.  They jumped in front early 5-0 after one, bumped their lead to 9-0 after two and finished with a 14-1 win.  Chris Caissie and Jason Hanson both produced five point nights with Caissie scoring 3 times and collecting a pair of assists while Hanson scored once and collected four assists.  Other Penguin goals in the slaughter of the Jr. Miners were Nick Morin and Aiden Nicholson with two goals and an assist, Alex Field scored twice and added two assists while Jacob Sanford scored once and contributed 3 assists.  Other goal scorers for the Pens were Connor Pierce, Finley Diab and Thomas Panapolis.  The lone goal for the Jr. Miners was scored by Kale MacDonald.  The Pens outshot the Jr. Miners 56-34.  The Pens are now 11-1-1 and remain three points ahead of the Brookfield Elks who still hold two games in hand on the Pens.
