Furious third period rallies by Bulldogs and Scotians

Two games on Sunday concluded a busy 10-game weekend in the Nova Scotia Junio Hockey League and the Sunday games saw two teams with huge third periods to pull out victories.   Here is a re-cap:

Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs   7      Jr. Miners   5

The Jr. Miners appeared they might have their second win of the season under their belts as they led the Bulldogs 5-2 after forty minutes in Antigonish Sunday afternoon.  However a huge third period saw Antigonish come back with five unanswered goals to secure a 7-5 win.  The Bulldogs improved to 5-3-1 while the Jr. Miners fell to 1-9-0.

The teams played a scoreless first period before Bulldog Andrew Murray scored 15 seconds into the second period.  The Jr. Miners Landon Clark tied the game 1-1 only 1:05 later before Owen Forsythe put the Bulldogs back in front 2-1.  The Jr. Miners then received goals from Chris Gould, Tyler Seymour, Brady Doucette and Landon Clark with his second of the night to go along with an assist.  The Bulldogs then replied with five of their own from Owen Forsythe with his second of the game, Will Normandeau, Cameron Bell, Daniel Chaisson on the power-play and Will MacKinnon who also added a pair of assists.  The Bulldogs outshot the Jr. Miners 42-29.

Pictou County Scotians   4      Eskasoni jr. Eagles   2

Each team traded goals in the first and second periods before the Scotians connected twice unanswered in the third to move back to .500 with a 6-6-0 record.  Owen Buckley of the Jr. Eagles and Mathus George of the Scotians replied in the opening frame and then PIerce Hutchings from Eskasoni and Chris Jorden of the Scotians had the teams tied at 2-2 after forty minutes.  Nate Supryka’s pair of goals including an empty-netter with 51 seconds left in regulation provided the Scotians with their 4-2 win and pulled them to within four points of the first place Jr, Eagles in the Sid Rowe Division,  Eskasoni stands at 8-3-0.
