Pens-Lumberjacks remain in tight race....Strait explodes for three goals in third

The South Shore Lumberjacks are now 9-0-0 on the season after a strong third period, something they beginning to let other teams aware of as they scored three unanswered goals to defeat the Capstone Colts 4-2 Saturday night in Bridgewater.

 
The Colts were in front 2-1 after forty minutes on goals Finn Merritt in the first period and Liam Andrews early in the second.  Nate Pearson tallied for the Lumberjacks in the opening period.
 
Both teams had 32 shots on goal but the Lumberjacks roared in and out of the third period with three unanswered goals from Marcus Tench, and a pair from Brennan Coleman including one into an empty net.  The loss left the Colts in third place with a 6-3-0 record.  The Lumberjacks despite being undefeated still trail the first place East Hants Penguins by a single point for first place in the Fred Fox Division as the Pens are 9-1-1 with the Lumberjacks holding aa pair of games in hand on the Penguins.  Elsewhere Saturday:

The Strait Pirates received huge efforts from Landon MacIntosh and Carlin Samson who both had three points nights leading the Strait to their 4-3 squeaker over the Jr. Miners.  The teams were scoreless after the first period before trading goals in the second period with Ty Oliver scoring for the Jr, Miners and Angus Berry in the second.  The Strait were set to rock and roll in the third as they stormed out of the gates scoring three unanswered goals, two from Carlin Samson and another from Landon MacIntosh to take a 4-1 lead.  Garrett MacIntosh and Brady Matheson brought the now 1-8-0 Jr. Miners to within a goal but they could not tally the equalizer.  With his three point night, Landon MacIntosh kept hold of fourth place in the League Scoring race with 8 goals and 9 assists for 17 points.

For both teams, it was their second game in less than 24 hours and the Penguins improved to 9-1-1 and 19 points as they blanked the Elks 2-0.  Nick Morin’s power-play goal gave East Hants a 1-0 lad after the first before Nik Xidos concluded the game’s scoring with his goal for the Pens in the second.  Chris Caissie of the Pens collected one assist and stayed four points behind Lane Lochead of the Pictou County Scotians.  Caissie has 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points while Lochead has 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points.  Payson Stewart face only 16 shots in the Pens nets in recording the shut-out.  The Pens ad 36 on the Elks net.
