Jr. Eagles record 8th win....MacLean stars for South Shore

The Eskasoni Jr. Eagles are showing fans across Nova Scotia that their 2025-26 team is one to be reckoned with, no questions asked.  Friday night in Antigonish, they played the defending Maritime Junior Champion Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs for the third time this season and came away with their second victory as they doubled up the Bulldogs 6-3.  Owen Buckley and Kendrick Marshall led the way for the Jr. Eagles as each scored while adding three assists apiece in the win.  Matthew Burke also had a goal and added two other assists.

 
The Bulldogs outshot the Jr. Eagles 37-28 but trailed 1-0 and 3-1 after the opening two periods.  Other Eagle goal scorers were Ryan Aucoin, Aidan Stanwick and Dillion Marshall.  Replying for the Bulldogs were Luc Legere with a pair including a short-handed goal and Cohen Pictou.  There were only two minor penalties called the entire evening.  Eskasoni has also shut-out the Bulldogs 3-0 tis season while Antigonish won the other contest 5-4 meaning the Eagles have outscored the Jr. Bulldogs 13-8 in the three games. Eskasoni occupies first place in the Sid Rowe Division with a record of 8-2-0 while the Bulldogs are 4-3-1.  Both teams return to action Sunday as the Bulldogs play host to the Jr. Miners while Pictou travels to Eskasoni.  Elsewhere Friday night.

The Lumberjacks remain the only undefeated team in the league as they won their 8th consecutive game of the season 5-1 over the Windsor Oxen at the John Paris Jr. Rink in Windsor.  Leo MacLean gave the Oxen a 1-0 lead after the first on a shot he deflected from the blue line.  He then put the Lumberjacks up 3-1 after two periods with a short-handed goal with only 2:04 remaining in the middle period as he shot from the left face-off circle and beat Graydon Mole in the Oxen net who left far too much room to his right side.  Aiden MacLeod’s power-play goal tied the game at 1-1 before the second period was five minutes old but Kyle MacIntyre made it 2-1 Lumberjacks and then MacLean’s goal made it 3-1.  MacLean delivered a solid performance for the South Shore skating hard the entire evening and even missed a hat-trick as he went the entire length of the ice only to have his near breakaway foiled by Mole.  Marcus Tench also had a short-handed goal in the third period for the visitors and Owen MacDermid put one into an empty Oxen net with only 33 seconds left in regulation.
 
Keegan Greencorn despite the 5-1 win had to stay sharp throughout the night as he stopped 40 of 41 shots he faced.  The Oxen held a 15-6 advantage in the opening period before the Lumberjacks had 15 shots apiece in both the second and third periods while the Oxen had 12 and 14.  With the loss, the Oxen fell to 3-4-1.

Amias Crossman scored a pair of goals and also added an assist to help the County Scotians to their 5-2 win over the Strait.   Crossman’s goal put Pictou up 1-0 after the first and the team did the majority of their scoring in the second as Pictou took a 4-2 lead on Crossman’s second goal and ones from John-Kay Martin and Lane Lochead. Camden Burgess completed the Scotians scoring with his marker in the third.  Pictou scored four in a row after the Strait jumped in front 2-1 on goals from Landon Macintosh and Carlin Samson early in the second.  Pictou outshot the Pirates 41-26 as they improved to 5-6-0 entering their game with Eskasoni Sunday.

The bealeagured  Blazers saw their record crumble to 2-9-0 after the Pens scored an 8-2 victory in Lantz.  Jacob Sanford score twice and added two assists for the Pens while Chris Caissie continued his impressive play this season with a pair of goals and an assist.  Alex Field scored once and added two assists for the winners.  Other Penguin goal scorers who improved to 8-1-1 were Chris Brill, Nik Xidos and Thomas Panapolis. Aiden Tucker and James Cameron were the Blazers goal scorers and who were outshot by the Pens 58-23.
 
 
Capstone Colts   9     Brookfield Elks   3
 
Jack Dulong scored twice and added a pair of assists to help the Colts triple up the Elks while Xavier Coggins also scored twice .  It was the Colts 6th victory of the season in eight games.  Nolan Stevens, Camden McKenzie and Connor McPhee all scored once and each added a pair of assists in the winning effort.  Other Colt goal scorers were Liam Andrews and Brandt Whitelaw.
 
Nate Grafstein, Jaden Duncan and Jacob McClellan tallied for the Elks who were outshot by the Colts 48-36.
