Lumberjacks improve to 7-0-0

The South Shore Lumberjacks have now won seven consecutive games to begin the 25-26 Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.  Their latest victim came on the road as they crunched the Sackville Blazers 5-2 in Sackville Monday night.  A pair of goals in the opening period for the Lumberjacks from Owen Cleary and Marcus Tench on the power-play was all the scoring until the third period when Brennan Coleman scored short-handed for the South Shore to make it 3-0.

Sackville attempted to get back in the game on a short-handed goal from Dylan Probert and with 6:50 to play in regulation Adam Maillet brought the Blazers to within one goal as the Blazers trailed 3-2.  The Blazers now 2-8-0 and in last place in the Fred Fox Division could not score anymore and in the process allowed the Lumberjacks Marcus Tench to score his second of the game, this one also on the power-play before Brandon Rideout put one into an empty net and a 5-2 verdict over the Blazers.  Cohen Westlake and Kyle MacIntyre both collected a pair of assists for the South Shore who despite being undefeated at 7-0-0 still trail the East Hants Penguins for first place in the Fox Division as the Penguins are 7-1-1 with the Lumberjacks having two game in hand.  The South Shore outshot Sackville 45-39.

Action will pick up again Friday night with a slate of five games featuring the Penguins hosting Sackville, Antigonish playing at home against the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles, the Lumberjacks travelling to Windsor, Brookfield playing the Colts and Port Hawkesbury hosting Pictou.  All games will start at 7:30.
