Blazers surprise Pens....Caissie continues hot scoring

Without a doubt, the 25-26 Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League continues to show more surprises in the past few years.  The most recent one was in Sackville Monday night when the 4-10-0 Blazers hosted the 11-3-1 East Hants Penguins.

Things were sailing along for the Pens as they enjoyed a 3-1 lead early in the third period before the Blazers in hurricane fashion scored four consecutive goals to defeat the Pens 5-3 and spoil the 11-3-1 Pens chance of overtaking the South Shore Lumberjacks for sole position of first place in the Fox Division.

Ryland Skerry put the Blazers up 1-0 before Aiden Nicholson who also assisted on the other two Pen goal scored with 45 seconds left in the opening period.  Thomas Panopalis tallied for East Hants in the second to put the Pens ahead 2-1 after forty minutes.

Chris Caissie scored his 15th goal of the season to go along with 16 assists to put East Hants ahead 3-1 early in the third.  For Caissie it gave him 13 points in the past 6 East Hants games.

It wasn’t enough as the Blazers breathed Fire as Ryland Skerry tallied his 2nd of the game with Tyler Curnew then adding aa pair including one into an empty net for the 5-3 Sackville win.  The Blazers are now 5-10-0 for ten points and only two back of the Windsor Oxen. East Hants outshot the Blazers 40-25.

Play resumes on three fronts Friday evening with Port Hawkesbury visiting the Colts, the Oxen playing in East Hants and Eskasoni in Antigonish.  All games start at 7:30 p.m.
