Oxen fall in their Divisional Semi-Final Opener...Colts surge to 5-0 lead

After the final two games in their opening round Best-of-Five Preliminary series with the Sackville Blazers which the Windsor Oxen finally won 3-2, one might have suspected the “hockey gods” would not be looking down on the Oxen for a third consecutive game after those two thrilling back to back overtime and double-overtime games.

The Oxen ventured into the old C.F.B. Shearwater Forum Wednesday night for their opening game in the Fred Fox Best-of-Seven Divisional Semi-Final with the first place Colts.

Windsor could not find themselves at all in the opening 40 minutes as they fell behind 5-0 before trying to rally with three third period goals, only to lose 6-3.

Liam Andrews, Cody Garcin and Finn Merritt all proven goal scorers in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League each scored once while adding an assist.  Brandt Whitelaw did likewise for the winners.  The other two Colt goal scorers were Xavier Coggins and Luke McPhee.  Camden MacKenzie recorded a pair of assists for the winners.

Windsor outshot the Colts 32-31 and received their third period goals from Noah Befekadu, Micah Tucker and Nolan Fowler.

Game 2 in this series returns to Shearwater Friday night at 7:30 before coming back to the John Paris Jr. Rink in Windsor for Game 3 Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

East Hants and the South Shore Lumberjacks will play Game 2 of their Fox Semi-Final in Lantz Friday at 7:30 p.m. before returning to Bridgewater for Game 3 Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

The two Sid Rowe Divisional Sent-Finals resume as well this weekend with Pictou trailing Eskasoni 2-0 playing Game 3 in Eskasoni Saturday before Game 4 in Pictou Sunday night.

Antigonish currently leading the Strait 1-0 will play a pair of games Friday and Saturday at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre before returning back to Antigonish for Game 4 Wednesday March 11th.

If you have no major weekend plans, treat yourselves to some fantastic hockey this weekend with the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Playoffs.
