It is almost becoming a regular situation….which is the South Shore Lumberjacks and East Hants Penguins meeting in the playoffs. For a third consecutive season the Lumberjacks and Pens are meeting in a Fred Fox Divisional Semi-Final.  The opening game in this Best-of-Seven series was played in Bridgewater Sunday afternoon with the Lumberjacks winning 2-1 in a tight-checking defensive style of game.

The teams exchanged goals in the opening period.  East Hants went up 1-0 on a marker from Jacob Sanford before Leo MacLean tied it at 1-1.  Jack Piper then tallied for the Lumberjacks in the second to give South Shore a 2-1 lead while concluding the game’s scoring.  South Shore outshot the visitors 32-28.

The Lumberjacks were 3-2-0 while the Pens finished 2-2-1 in five regular season games between the two clubs with the Lumberjacks outscoring the Pens 12-11 in those five games.

South Shore eliminated the Pens in five games in the playoffs last season and rallied from a 3-0 deficit in 23-24 to win in seven games.

In the opening game of the other Sid Rowe Divisional Semi-Final, the Bulldogs despite outshooting the Strait 43-20 had difficulty putting the puck behind the Strait net.  The two goals which gave them a 1-0 Best-of-Seven series lead were scored by Owen Forsythe in the second and Cameron Bell in the third.  The Strait Pirates did not allow a goal when they were forced to play two men down in the first after Cole Campbell and Jesse Dalder took minor penalties 18 seconds apart.  Ethan Chisholm turned away 20 shots in recording the shut-out, his first in both the regular season and playoffs.

 Eskasoni   5     Pictou   3

For a second consecutive night, the County Scotians had trouble hanging onto a lead, this time they coughed up a 3-1 lead and allowed the Jr. Eagles three unanswered goals in the third period to lose 5-3 and fall behind in the Best-of-Seven 2-0.  Camden Burgess and Martin MacArthur scored in the final 1:52 of the first period for the Scotians to put them up 2-0 after one.  The Jr. Eagles got one back before Sam Maddison put Pictou up 3-1 in the second.  It was all the scoring the Scotians would do as they allowed Eskasoni 4 consecutive goals and lot 5-3.  Pictou did outshoot the Jr. Eagles 35-33.  Eli James turned away 29 of 33 shots for Pictou in a losing cause.  Game 3 will be in Eskasoni next Saturday March 7th at 7:00 p.m. before returning to Trenton for Game 4 Sunday night at 6:00 p.m.
