Lumberjacks and Jr. Eagles remain only undefeated teams

Lumberjacks and Jr. Eagles remain only undefeated teams

The Devil visited the dressing rooms of the Windsor Oxen and the Jr. Miners Hockey Clubs Saturday evening and cast an unknown spell as while both teams had played two competitive periods of hockey, especially the Oxen who had a 4-1 lead over the South Shore Lumberjacks,  However the spell cast on both teams was drastic as both collapsed in the third period giving up five goals apiece.  First in Bridgewater:

South Shore Lumberjacks   6     Windsor Oxen   4

The Oxen  took a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes on goals from Aidan MacLeod on the power-play and Cody Hebb’s third goal of the season.  Kyle MacIntyre then opened the second period with his first of two goals in the game for the Lumberjacks but the Oxen stormed back with 2 more from Matthew Shields on the power-play and Nolan Fowler to secure a healthy 4-1 lead after forty minutes.  As to what transpired with the Devil during the second period intermission, one can only guess but it was venomous enough as the Oxen collapsed and did nothing in the third period except allow the Lumberjacks to score five unanswered goals and remain undefeated winning the game 6-4.  MacIntyre’s second of the night was the first goal for the Lumberjacks in the third and the onslaught continued as Evan Amirault scored three times while adding an assist.  Owen MacDermid, a former Windsor player scored the game winner for the Lumberjacks with 1.28 left in regulation.  Leo MacLean added three assists for the Lumberjacks,  The Oxen did outshoot the Lumberjacks 38-31 despite falling to 2-1-2 on the season.  A similar fate fell on the Oxen in their opening game of the season when they took a 4-1 lead over the Capstone Colts but lost.  The Lumberjacks improved to 5-0-0 and are one of only two undefeated teams after Week 4 in the 25-26 Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Season.  The Lumberjacks are now idle until Oct 18 when they will host the East Hants Penguins before travelling to Sackville Oct 20.  The Oxen meanwhile host Port Hawkesbury Friday Oct 10 at 7:30 p.m. before hitting the road for Antigonish.

Eskasoni   8      Jr. Miners   3

The Devil or his assistant then made their way to the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre where the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles won their 6th consecutive game to begin he 25-26 seasons.  We will never know the venom he spread in the Jr, Miners dressing room as after they tied the Jr. Eagles at 3-3 only 1:22 into the third, the universe collapsed like it did for the Oxen as the Jr, Miners allowed the Jr, Eagles 5 unanswered goals to win the game 8-3.

Eskasoni’s first three goals were scored by Pierce Hutchngs, Owen Buckley and Keegan O’Neil and it put them up 3-0.  The Jr. Miners quickly battled back with goals from Brady Matheson, Ryland Hanrahan and then Matheson scored his second of the game for the Jr, Miners.  After this the rollercoaster began a wild  ride and the Jr. Miners could not hang on as Owen Buckey scored his second of the night into an empty net and prior to that goal, Rory Mills, Matthew Burke, Dillon Arsenault on the power-play and Jesse Cathcart with the final score being 8-3.  The Jr. Eagles trailed only 5-3 until the games final 3:28 when they put three more in the net.  The Jr. Eagles are now 6-0-0 and are hosting the Capstone Colts in Eskasoni Sunday afternoon while Antigonish visits Pictou in a 5:30 start.
