McPhee scores 4 including OT winner....Colts lead 3-0
The Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Championship Series for the Veterans Cup could be all over tonight in Eskasoni after the Capstone Colts defeated the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles for the second game in a row, 5-4 in overtime, to take a 3-0 lead in their Best-of-Seven Championship Series.

The Colts won Game 1 6-4 and then have had to score overtime goals in Games 2 and 3 to win 5-4 and 6-5.  Luke McPhee was the All-Star for the Colts last evening as he not only scored three goals in regulation, one in the second and two in the third but he also scored the sudden-death game winner with 57 seconds remaining in the opening 10-minute sudden death to put the Colts up 3-0.

Eskasoni started strong leading the Colts 2-1 after the first period on goals from Pierce Hutchings and Keegan O’Neill who netted a power-play marker.  In between these two goals, Liam Andrews tallied for the Colts.

In the second, the Colts rallied on a pair from Finn Merritt and McPhee with his first of the game before Dillion Arsenault tied it for Eskasoni with 5:06 left in the second period.

The Eagles went ahead 4-3 early in the third on Mitchell Gould’s first of two goals in the third, before McPhee’s two third period goals put the Colts ahead 5-4.  The scoring was not complete as Mitchell Gould tied it for Eskasoni at 5-5.  It was all the scoring in regulation before McPhee’s overtime winner which came on the power-play after Keagan Geizer took a costly penalty for tripping just 6 seconds into the ten-minute sudden death overtime.

Eskasoni outshot the Colts for the first time in the series 41-35.  Camden McKenzie, Cody Garcia and Cooper Puma loaded up on assists with McKenzie adding a pair, Garcia recording 3  and  Puma 4. Tyson LeFrens recorder three assists for the Jr. Eagles while Mitchell Gould and Kendrick Marshall both collected a pair for Eskasoni.

Each game has been tight and now the Eagles will see if they can somehow force a fifth game in this Championship series Sunday in Shearwater.  If the Colts win Saturday afternoon in Game 4 at 3:00 p.m., it will be their second consecutive Provincial Championship.
