Davison stars in 4 point night....Oxen lead series 2-1

The Sackville Blazers and Windsor Oxen were on the ice for a third consecutive game Sunday night in Windsor in their Best-of-Five Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Preliminary round playoff series.

Wilson Davison who has been playing sensational hockey for the past 6 weeks for the Oxen tallied two goals and picked up two assists to lead the Oxen to a 5-2 win and a 2-1 lead in their series.
Game 4 is Tentatively scheduled for Sackville Monday night but with the severe Nor’Easter expected to hit HRM by mid-afternoon, the game is up in the air right now as League Officials do not want players travelling on bad roads in anyway, shape or form.

Sunday’s game saw Davison break the game open with back to back bullet shots, one which was in an out of the net so quick, officials needed a split second to determine it actually went in.  He followed that up with another blistering shot from 15 feet directly in front of the Blazers net and Windsor led 3-1.  It was the only two goals of the second period after Matthew Shields and Adam Maillet scored 39 seconds part in the opening period to knot the score 1-1 after twenty minutes.  On the first Oxen goal, the blazers got sloppy for seconds and it cost them as Jacob Gerhardt made a nice pass to Matthew Shields who buried the shot home.  However, 39 seconds later the Oxen fell asleep on a key rebound and Adam Maillet scored for Sackville.  Seconds later Shaikh in the Blazers net made an excellent pad save on the Oxen’s Fowler.  Earlier, Shaikh had to be sharp close-in on a shot by Manning, the puck then took a bounce and Walsh was chasing it down the ice in hopes of a breakaway but Shaikh beat him to the puck and cleared it away.  Logan Mitchell handed out the stiffest check of the first period when he caught Shields at about centre ice and made Shields bells ring as he went into the boards.

It was a different up and down game as the Oxen outshot the Blazers 13-9 in the opening period and 9-8 in the third period but totally dominated the second outshooting Sackville 23-6 for a game advantage of 45-23.  Despite all the shots, both teams struggled to maintain any offensive pressure in either end during the first period.  Windsor also gave the puck away too many times in the closing stages of the first.

The Oxen had a 2 man advantage for 1:16 in the second as one Blazer had another player serving a major penalty for him for charging which also carried with it a game misconduct.  The Oxen dominated this power-play with the exception of about 20-30 seconds. When I say dominated the power-play, they certainly controlled the puck but still passed it too much and missing out on what could have been good scoring chances.  Davison then struck for his two goals by shooting the puck.

In the third, the Oxen were ready to play defense as they made two incredible blocks on shots by stretching their bodies on the ice and taking the shots originally directed at the net.

The Oxen went up 4-1 when Jacob Gerhardt’s rebound came directly out in front of Shields and he made it 4-1 Oxen.  Sackville then with Shaikh pulled and playing 6 on 4 while the Oxen served a minor penalty, scored and it was 4-2 Oxen.  Eleven seconds after Shield’s goal is all it took for Aiden Tucker to score.  The game’s final goal was an empty netter by Cam Fowler.  Davison also added a pair of assists for the Oxen while Jacob Gerhardt chip in with a pair of assists.  Fowler also assisted on a goal to go along with his lone marker.  In three games now, the Oxen have outscored the Blazers 11-10.
