Jr. Miners now 0-8-0, Mole records shut-out in Windsor

The Cape Breton Jr. Miners were desperately seeking to end their opening seven game losing streak to start the 25-26 Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League season.  While they gave it a tremendous effort, a third period breakdown cost them and they lost 6-4 to the Capstone Colts in Metro Friday evening.

The Colts opened the game with a power-play goal from Jack Dulong but Tyler Seymour tied it for the Jr. Miners only 30 seconds later.  The Jr. Miners Bray Matheson then gave the Miners a 2-1 lead heading to the dressing room after one period.

The Jr. Miners played the Colts tough in the second period despite being outshot on the game 52-28.  The two teams scored three goals in the final five minutes as Liam Andrews scored short-handed and Connor MacPhee to put the Colts up 3-2 before Brady scored his second of the game with only three ticks left on the clock to tie the game at 3-3 entering the third period.

The third period is where the trouble began for the Jr. Miners as Brandt Whitelaw and Cooper Puma scored 1:04 apart to put the Colts up 5-3, Vincent Radford then gave the Colts a 6-3 lead before Ty Oliver scored on the power-play for the Miners to make the final 6-4.  The Jr. Miners are now 0-8-0 and all look to snap their losing streak in their next game against the Pictou County Scotians on Oct 18th at home.  The Colts meanwhile improved to 4-2-0 and will travel to Windsor Friday evening to play the 3-2-2 Oxen in 7:30 start.  Both teams are tied for third place in the Fox Division standings with 8 points.  Speaking of the Oxen:

The Oxen received a stellar game from Graydon Mole in the Leaf nets as she turned away all 33 shots he faced and the Oxen won 7-0.  The only goal of the first period was tallied by Dylan Manning before the Oxen came roaring out in the second period with four goals by Cody Hebb, Kayden Kuryluk, Wilson Davison and Cam Walsh to move up 5-0 after forty minutes.  The Oxen outshot the Strait Pirates 11-10 in both the first and second periods before taking a commanding advantage in the third outshooting them 19-13.  Cam Walsh and Wilson Davison scored unanswered goals for the Oxen  in the third period.  The game saw an incredible amount of needless penalties whistled down as the officiating staff enjoyed blowing their whistle hanging out 21 minor penalties, 3 misconducts, 2 game misconducts and 2 fighting majors for a total of 102 penalty minutes called on the evening.
