South Shore and Eskasoni now both 3-0-0
Pictou County Scotians Head Coach Chris Hatchard was full of optimism prior to the start of the 25-26 Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Season.  No doubt that optimism still runs strong but the Scotians will certainly have to shake off some cobwebs in order to maintain that strong optimism as Pictou lost their third straight Sunday afternoon in Eskasoni by a score of 6-5.

Th win for the Jr. Eagles made them 3-0-0 and they got off to a great start taking a 3-0 lead on goals from Noah MacKinnon, Kendrick Marshall and Kent Wolodka before Ethan Daley tallied for the Scotians with only 1:23 left in the opening period.

The second period saw the Scotians come storming out with a pair of goals from Chris Jordan and Kaleb Melanson before the period was four minutes old to tie the game at 3-3.  MacKinnon ended up scoring three goals for the Jr. Eagles.  Kendrick Marshall scored twice and added a pair of assists for the winners.  After leading 3-1 after one, Chris Jordan and Kaleb Melanson tied the game at 3-3 in the second before Marshall’s second goal of the game gave the Jr. Eagles a 4-3 lead after forty minutes.

Eskasoni then went ahead 5-3 in the third on the second of MacKinnon’s three goals before Camdyn Burgess brought the Scotians back to within a goal mid-way through the third period.  The Eagles went up 6-4 on the power-play with 3:58 remaining as MacKinnon scored his third and final goal of the game. Owen Hickey scored on the power-play with under two minutes remaining in regulation. It was to be Pictou’s final goal  Along with Chris Jordan’s goal, he collected a pair of assists while Lane Lochead collected a trio of assists for the Scotians.  Marcellus Francis had three assists for the winners.  Pictou now prepares for the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates Friday evening in the Strait in hopes of garnering their first win of the season.
