Bulldogs look to clinch series Friday

The Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs recorded their third one-goal win over the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles Wednesday evening to take a 3-1 Rowe Division Final series lead.  Game 5 is scheduled for Antigonish Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

In Wednesday’s game at the Dan K. Stevens Memorial Arena in Eskasoni, the Bulldogs jumped in front 2-0 after the opening period on goals from Will Normandeau and Brody MacPherson.

In the second, the Jr. Eagles Keegan O’Neill scored the first of his two goals on the evening for the home team.  However between O’Neill’s two goals, Luc Legere connected for the Bulldogs to make it 3-1 before O’Neill’s goal with 1:02 left in regulation.  That made the final 3-2 Antigonish who have won their three games by scores of 4-3, 2-1 and 3-2.  Eskasoni has won their only game by a score of 6-2.  The Jr. Eagles because of that one explosive game are outscoring the Bulldogs 12-11 in the four games.

Marcellus Francis recorded a pair of assists for the Jr. Eagles.

Ethan Chisholm was his usual outstanding self in the Bulldog nets turning away 29 of 31 shots while Andrew Burke more than held his own in the Eagle nets turning away 31 of 34 shots.

A win by the Bulldogs Friday night in this hard fought series will put them in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Veterans Cup Championship Series for the fifth consecutive season, having won three with their only loss coming to the Capstone Colts in last year’s provincial championship.
