Don Johnson Memorial Cup
The 2025 Don Johnson Memorial Cup will see a venue change this year after Kensington, Prince Edward Island decided they did not want to host the Junior Championship Tournament. As well, for the first time in many years, the Tournament will be a Maritime Championship for Junior Hockey Supremacy as Newfoundland has decided not to participate anymore.
Considerable discussion has taken place in recent weeks between the New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island Amateur Hockey Associations as to the best approach after Kensington and Newfoundland’s decision.
What was decided amongst the three provincial associations is a five-team tournament that will take place in Cocagne, New Brunswick April 22-27. The tournament will feature Kensington, Prince Edward Island, the only Junior “B” Hockey Team registered on the Island as well as the two teams who clash for Provincial Championship Honours in both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
For example, if East Hants and Antigonish were to play for the Nova Scotia Provincial Championship this year, the losing team would not be eliminated as they would also travel to Cocagne.
The tournament will be run exactly like other Don Johnson Memorial Cups with five teams and the top four making the playoffs. Round-Robin Hockey will be played between the teams from April 22-25 with the top four teams in the standings advancing to the Maritime Semi-Finals on Saturday and the winners in the semi-finals playing for the Maritime Championship on Sunday afternoon April 27.
