Bulldogs continue scoring spree

The Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs notched their scoring into maximum super-drive over the weekend as after scoring eight goals in their 8-0 whitewashing of Pictou Friday night, they were hungrier than ever Saturday night when they demoralized the Membertou Jr. Miners 9-1 in Membertou.  Zachary Lorette scored twice and added two assists for the Bulldogs in a game which saw only two minor penalties called the entire sixty minutes.  Will Normandeau and Tully Grant also scored a pair of goals each for Antigonish who outshot the Jr. Miners 43-27 and held period leads of 4-0 and 9-0.  Other Bulldog goals were notched by Max Baldwin, Will McKinnon and Matthew Bercovici.  Jarred Hicks scored the only goal of the third period and the only goal for the Jr. Miners.  Ryan MacDonald stopped 26 of 27 shots in the Bulldog nets while Daniel MacGillivary allowed five goals for the Jr. Miners before Lucas Fraser replaced him and allowed the final four.  The Bulldogs improved their record on the season to 16-3-0.

The Colts coming off a shut-out win over the Lumberjacks and the Elks a hard fought 4-3 loss to the Valley Maple Leafs collided in Brookfield Saturday afternoon with the second place Colts moving three points ahead of the Sackville Blazers.  The Colts won their 11th game of the season but had to earn every inch of it as the Elks refused to quit.  Jackson Spraggon scored both Elk goals giving him seven points in his past three games.  The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period before the Colts broke the game open with three goals in the second from Trayner McCulloch, who now has 6 points in his past three games, Camden McKenzie and Nik Xidos.  Benjamin Veinot tallied in the first for the Colts.  Conar Brace stopped 39 of 41 shots in nets for the Colts while Caleb Oulton stopped 37 of 41 shots in the Elk nets.  Brady Stone collected a pair of assists for the Colts.
