Scotians double Blues

he Pictou County Scotians won their 7th game in ten starts Sunday evening in Trenton as they doubled the Cumberland County Blues 8-4.  It took the Scotians the opening 30 minutes to get revved up but after the Blues Aidan McBurnie tied the game at 3-3 with 13:29 to play in the middle period, it was essentially all Scotians from there.  Ryan Frizzle scored three times and added one assist with single markers going to Nate Supryka, Cale McLaughlin, Jayden Hatchard, Jack Tompkins and Ryan Green.  The Blues led 2-1 after the opening period on power-play goals from Tate O’Reilly and Burke Beed.  The other Blues goal was scored by Daniel MacKenzie with two seconds left in the second period to give the Scotians a 6-4 advantage after 40 minutes.  Cale McAndrew added 3 assists for the Scotians who are now tied with Antigonish for 3rd place in the Rowe Division, one point back of the second place Strait Pirates and three behind first place Eskasoni.  The Scotians outshot the Blues 52-23.

The Eskasoni Jr. Eagles lost for only the 2nd time in regulation Sunday afternoon as they were defeated by the Jr. Bulldogs 4-1.  Matthew Bercovici and Will Fitzsimmons both scored 2nd period goals to give Antigonish a 2-0 lead entering the third.  Dante Basque brough Eskasoni back to within 1 with 11:32 to play in regulation but Ethan Twolan’s power play goal with 3:20 left made it 3-1 and Sam Grant then put one into an empty net to make the final 4-1 Jr. Bulldogs and pull them to within three points of the first place Jr. Eagles. who were outshot 36-26 by Antigonish.
