Colts win their 9th straight

The 10-1-0 Capstone Colts rolled to their ninth consecutive victory Friday night at home at C.F.B. Shearwater with a 5-3 win over arch-rival the Sackville Blazers.  The Blazers went in front 3-1 at the end of two periods but simply could not hang on in the third as the Colts scored four unanswered markers to win the game 5-3 and drop the Blazers back to .500 with a 6-6-1 record for 13 points.  This game was actually tied with 1:31 to play but Colin Goodwin’s power-play marker and Cooper Puma’s marker with 48 seconds remaining in regulation did the Blazers in.  Other third period goals went to Colin Goodwin with his first of the game and Matt Jessome.  The teams were tied 1-1 after the opening period and Sackville jumped in front 3-1 after forty minutes.  The Colts outshot the Blazers 48-40.

Port Hawkesbury  3     Membertou  2

The Strait Pirates have struggled of late on home ice, especially in the third period but they finally seemed to get that bug out of their system as they came up with a solid 3-2 win over the Membertou Jr. Miners Friday night in the Strait.  Dave Matthews scored his 8th goal in his past three games just 12 seconds into the game before the Jr. Miners Riley Crane scored on the power-play in the latter stages of the first.  It was 1-1 after one and then 2-2 after two after a pair of power-play goals, one from Danny Gillis of the Pirates and the other from Nathan MacMillan of the Jr. Miners.  Gregor Yoell scored the game winner for the Strait with the only goal of the third period for the Strait’s 6th win of the season and their 3-2 victory.  The Strait Pirates outshot the Jr. Miners 41-30.

Valley  4    Liverpool  2

It had to come eventually but the Liverpool Privateers were wishing it did not come against them as they visited the West Hants Sports Complex in Windsor Friday night.  The Privateers who got off to such a strong start lost to the Maple Leafs 4-2 as the Leafs registered their first win of the season after 13 consecutive losses.  The Privateers meanwhile are doing their utmost but are not progressing as they fell to 1-6-1 after such a promising 4-0-0 start.  Terran Baillie scored twice, once in the first period and then added the game winner in the second as the Leafs took a 3-0 lead.  Carson Gallant put the Privateers on the scoreboard mid-way through the second before Christopher Brown made it 4-1 Leafs with less than 4 minutes gone in the third.  Daniel Kline’s power-as play goal was the last goal of the game as he scored with 4:01 remaining in regulation.  Aidan Durnford played exceptionally again for the Maple Leafs as he stopped 40 of 42 shots as the teams tied 42-42 in shots.
