Bulldogs start 2-0-0 at DO JO Cup

Two huge games Friday for the AA Munro Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs at the 2022 Don Johnson Memorial Cup in Cocagne, New Brunswick.  At 12:00 noon Friday, the Bulldogs square off against the Sherwood-Parkdale Metros, PEI Provincial Champions and at 7:30 tonight play the host Kent Coyotes.

 
Thursday afternoon, the Jr. Bulldogs put an exceptionally solid performance blanking Newfoundland Provincial Champions the Mount Pearl Blades by a count of 4-0.  Jake MacDonald put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0 with his goal with only 47 seconds left in the opening period.  In the second Sam Mattie scored his 3rd and 4th goals of the tournament, the first with 3:05 to play in the second and the second with 1:00 to play in the middle period.  Craig Landry then put the Jr. Bulldogs up 4-0 with his goal with only 12 seconds to play in the second.  There was no scoring in the third period with the win putting the Bulldogs in first place with 6 points as each win in regulation is worth 3 points.   Mt. Pearl  outshot Antigonish 33-28 including 18-10 and 11-8 in the first and second periods.  PEI and Nfld remain tied for 2nd place with 3 points but they had late games being played Thursday.  This page will be updated Friday morning.  Ryan MacLellan has collected five assists for the Bulldogs in their two games to date.
 
In the Bulldogs opening game of the tournament Wednesday evening, they doubled up NB Champions the Moncton Vitos 6-3.  The Bulldogs went in front 3-0 on goals from Jordan Etheridge, William Fitzsimmons and Ethan Twolan but with 8:43 gone in the third period, the Vitos had tied the game at 3-3 before the Jr. Bulldogs put it fourth gear scoring 3 times in the games final 3:17, two of them coming off the stick of Sam Mattie and the other an empty netter by Darren Waterman.  The teams were tied in shots on goal at 32-32.
