Jr. Bulldogs 1 win away from Championship

The AA Munro Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs are now a single win away from the 2021-22 Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Championship following their 2-1 win over East Hants Easter Sunday evening in Antigonish.  It was a tight-checking affair with both teams giving each other limited mobility to get in a groove with numerous scoring chances.  The teams were scoreless after one period and almost scoreless after two periods before the teams traded goals in the final 30 seconds with Devin Meagher giving East Hants a 1-0 lead before Ethan Price tied it for the Jr. Bulldogs five seconds later.  The Jr. Bulldogs who were assessed six of the game’s eight minor penalties played two men short for 21 seconds in the second but the Penguins could not connect on this golden scoring opportunity.  The line of Fearghus MacDonald, Sam Mattie and Jake MacDonald connected for the winning goal with 10:02 left in regulation with MacDonald scoring the game winner.  The 3 points gave the line an impressive 60 combined points in 17 playoff games.  Antigonish outshot the Penguins 30-28.  Game 6 and who knows, it could be the final game of this Junior Season in Nova Scotia goes Saturday night in Lantz at 7:30 and if a 7th and deciding game is necessary, it will go back to Antigonish the following evening Sunday April 24 at 7:30 p.m.  After 3 games in 4 nights over the Easter Holiday, the break this week should be good for both teams as the winner of this series will have only a maximum 2-3 days before their opening game in the 2022 Don Johnson Memorial Cup in Cocagne, New Brunswick scheduled for Wednesday April 27.
