Blazers 1-1-0 over Holiday Weekend

The Sackville Blazers split a pair of games over the Thanksgiving Day Weekend losing Friday Oct 8 in Port Hawkesbury at the Civic Centre by a score of 6-2 before returning home Thanksgiving Day afternoon for a 5-3 win over the Cumberland County Blues.

The Strait Pirates were playing their opening game of the 21-22 season and after Stephen Purdy gave the Blazers a 1-0 lead with five minutes gone in the opening period, the Strait Pirates came back with goals from Jayden Muise and a power-play marker from Matthew Ellis, the Pirates two goals coming just 3:01 apart and with under eight minutes to play in the opening period.  Brady MacNeil then struck in the second period to put the Pirates up 3-1 which is the way it stood going into the third period.  For nearly ten minutes of the final period, the score stayed that way until Jack Meek brought the Blazers to within a goal at 3-2.  However only 1:10 after Meeks goal, the Strait Pirates were up by two goals again as Cameron Gillis scored to make it 4-2.  Gregor Yoell and Lewis Taylor then added two more to make the final 6-2 Strait Pirates.  The Pirates outshot the Blazers 38-32.

Monday afternoon Oct 11 in Sackville, the Blazers with just under ten minutes to play in the opening period scored a pair of goals 34 seconds apart by Trey Faulkner and Brian Grandy who would finish with a three point afternoon as he also collected a pair of assists.  Jacob Estabrooks tallied for the Blues and the game stood 2-1 Blazers after one.  Before the second period was six minutes old, the Blazers had a 4-1 lead on goals from Mitchell Comeau and the game winner from Jack Meek.  Daniel Mackenzie scored the Blues second goal of the game and it stood 4-2 after forty minutes.  Daniel LeBlanc for the Blazers and Aidan McBurnie for the Blues scored in the third period to make the final 5-3.  Sackville held a wide advantage in shots over the Blues 54-27.
