Two more OT wins Saturday by South Shore and Antigonish
Two more outstanding games of hockey were played Saturday night in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League, both which required overtime.  We will take a look at the Lumberjacks and Blazers first, they played in Bridgewater.

South Shore   2       Sackville   1 (overtime)

The Lumberjacks knew this would not be an easy go as they were coming off a 5-3 setback to the Blazers Monday night in Sackville.  However with both teams committed to strong defense, the teams were only able to exchange one goal apiece before Cohen Westlake’s overtime winner with 2:05 to play in the extra five minute session.  Dylan Probert put the Blazers up 1-0 after one period before Kyle MacIntyre tied it for the Lumberjacks in the second.  The teams played a scoreless third period.  Only two minor penalties were called in the game.  Goaltending was extra sharp as the Lumberjacks Keegan Greencorn stopped 37 of 38 shots while Braeden Shaikh turned away 32 of 34 shots in the Blazers net.  The win for the Lumberjacks put them at 21-6-0 for 42 points, four back of the first place Capstone Colts.  The Colts have one game remaining and the Lumberjacks three.

Antigonish   4      Pictou   3  (Overtime)

The Jr. Bulldogs moved to within a single point of first place Eskasoni in the Sid Rowe Division after a 4-3 overtime win over the Pictou County Scotians.  It marked the second straight overtime loss for the Scotians who have secured third place in the Rowe Division.  Kyle Nearing for the Scotians and Cameron Bell for the Jr. Bulldogs traded goals in the opening period.  Nearing’s second goal of the game put Pictou up 2-1 after forty minutes but Daniel Chaisson and Cohen Pictou put the Bulldogs up 3-2 in the third before Martin MacArthur scored the tying goal for the Scotians to send it into overtime.

It was a strange overtime as only 19 seconds in, Jack Prince took a double minor kneeing penalty for the Bulldogs but just 1:17 later, the Bulldogs short-handed were awarded a penalty shot and Luc Legere was successful to give Antigonish, now 18-8-1 their 4-3 win.  Eskasoni meanwhile is 19-8-0 for 38 points.  The game featured plenty of penalties as 126 minutes were called including 6 fighting majors, 6 game misconducts, a double minor for kneeling and a misconduct.  Antigonish outshot Pictou 39-26 while recording their 9th consecutive win, not having lost since early December to the Scotians.

East Hants   9       Port Hawkesbury   2

The Penguins improved to 19-7-2 for 40 points and only two back of the second place Lumberjacks as they destroyed the Strait Pirates in a make-up game in Lantz Saturday evening.  The Penguins took no hostages as they rolled up 3-0 and 5-2 leads after the opening two periods before scoring four unanswered goals in the third.  Noah Comeau scored three for the Penguins while Jacob Sanford scored twice and added a pair of assists and Jayson Hanson a single goal while collecting three assists.  Other Penguin goal scorers were Nick Morin, Aiden Nicholson and Cayden MacKeigan.  East Hants outshot the Strait 58-24.  Ben MacDonald and Cadyn Power replied for the Strait.   For Power, it was his fourth goal in his last four games to go along with 3 assists.  Overall he has 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points on the season.  The Penguins after a rough stretch prior to the Christmas break are now 7-1-1 in their last nine games.

Capstone Colts   11      Brookfield   3

The Colts demolished the Elks in a Saturday afternoon matinee in Brookfield.  The Colts scored three goals apiece in the first and second periods before exploding for 5 in the third period.  Luke McPhee, Connor Malana and Jacob Trioni-Willis with his 16th and 17th goals of the season pace the 22-5-2 Colts while singles went to Connor McPhee, Jack Dulong, Noah McPherson, Greyson Bouthiette and Cody Garcin with his league-leading 26th goal of the season to go along with his 27 assists.  Cody Wamboldt recorded three assists for the defending provincial junior champions while Liam Andrews recorded two assists for the winners who outshot the Elks 63-29.  Bryson Currie, Owen Cleary and Brodie Ellis tallied for the Elks.
