Colts and Oxen win close ones and Bulldogs win their 5th straight

Two absolutely thrilling hockey games Friday night and another in which the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs continued to show consistent improvement.  First in Shearwater:

Capstone Colts   5      Sackville Blazers   4

These two clubs battled through forty minutes with the Colts up by a goal.  Sackville’s Zachary Jenkins tied the game at 3-3 early in the third period before Connor MacPhee and Cody Garcin put the Colts up by a pair at 5-3.  Garcin’s goal was his league-leading 25th in 26 games and presently he is showing a 17 goal improvement over the 24-25 season when he notched eight goals.
Zachary Jenkins brought the Blazers back to within one when he scored his second of the night, but it was too little too late as it came with only two seconds remaining in regulation.

Nolan Stevens scored a pair in the opening frame while Brady Burke replied for the Blazers.  Adam Maillet’s short-handed goal tied the game at 2-2 in the second before Connor Malana made it 3-2 Colts with 1:24 to play in the second.  Brandt Whitelaw collected three assists for the Colts who outshot the Blazers 40-24.

Windsor   5     East Hants   3

The Oxen were able to stay within reach of the third place Penguins with a pair of unanswered goals in the final period for their 5-3 win.  Cam Walsh tallied with 6:41 left in regulation and then Micah Tucker tallied with one minute left to give the Oxen a 5-3 win.  The two teams were tied at 1-1 after twenty minutes on goals from the Pens Nick Morin and the Oxen’s Wilson Davison 51 seconds apart mid-way through the opening period.

In the second, the Pens went up 2-1 on a goal from Jacob Sanford before Jacob Gerhardt’s power-play goal tied the contest at 2-2.  Reese Smith then put Windsor up 3-2 before Hayden Tamm’s power-lay goal with 22 seconds to play in the middle period tied the game again at 3-3.  Windsor outshot the Pens 41-37.

Antigonish   9     Jr. Miners   3

The Jr. Bulldogs won their fifth in a row, this time 9-3 over the Jr. Miners while outshooting the Cape Breton team 59-26.  Kevin Walker and Gavin Clarke both scored a pair with Clarke also registering three assists with single markers going to Will Normandeau who had a five point night in registering 4 assists, Brody MacPherson, Owen Forsythe and Kellen Fuller.  This was the first game between th Jr. Miners and Bulldogs since Nov 22nd when the Miners doubled up Antigonish 6-3.

Brady Matheson had a pair for the Jr. Miners while Tyler Seymour added the other Jr. Miners goal.
