Bulldogs take over second place in Rowe

The Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs continue their slow methodical battle for first place in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League’s Sid Rowe Division after having occupied third place for the majority of the 25-26 regular season.

In a make-up game Tuesday night, the Jr. Bulldogs breezed by the Pictou County Scotians 7-2 at the Wellness Centre in Pictou.  It enabled the Jr. Bulldogs to even their season series with the Scotians at 2-2-0 and move 1 point ahead of Pictou into second place in the Rowe Division.  It also marked the fourth meeting of the season between the two teams with the Scotias winning by 4-2 and 6-2 margins and the Jr. Bulldogs by 5-1 and 7-2 margins, meaning Antigonish has outscored the Scotians 16-13 over the four games with two left to play in the regular season on Feb 7th in Antigonish and Sunday, Feb 15 in Pictou at 6:00 p.m.

As far as Tuesday’s game was concerned, the Bulldogs staked themselves to 3-0 and 4-0 leads after the first and second periods and never looked back.  Owen Juurlink score a pair for Antigonish in the opening period while Gavin Clarke scored once in the second and again in the third.  The three other marksmen for the Jr. Bulldogs were Brody MacPherson, Daniel Chaisson and Luc Legere.  Chaisson also recorded a pair of assists.

The Jr. Bulldogs are now 13-8-1 and the Scotians 13-11-0 entering play this weekend.
